New Journal Designed to Educate Doctors on Opioids

WESTON, MA--The Journal of Opioid Management has been launched to assist doctors in the proper and adequate prescription of opioids.

With the Federal spotlight now focused on the rising problems of abuse and addiction tied to this type of medication, the Journal of Opioid Management will fill what has been called a "dangerous gap" in medical literature. To meet this end, the Journal has formed an editorial staff and review board of the country's leading experts.

Under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Robert E. Enck, MD, the Journal of Opioid Management, a bimonthly publication, will address all aspects of the safe use and management of opioids. "There is a clear need for education in the use and abuse of opioids in clinical practice," said Dr. Enck, who also holds the same position with the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. "The difference between tolerance, physical dependence, and addiction is frequently misunderstood."

In addition, because of the potential legal ramifications associated with the prescription of opioids, the Journal of Opioid Management has a team of defense and prosecution attorneys available to discuss both sides of the legal issue.

Finally, the Journal of Opioid Management will include coverage of such topics as dosages and types of opioids, routes, and intervals; patient expectations and reactions to opioid treatment; ten points of practical use of opioids; seven sins that physicians commit when prescribing opioids; value of adjuvant analgesics; legal/ethical issues and the ongoing regulatory environment; and addiction.

The Journal of Opioid Management is located at 470 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA 02493, and can be contacted at 781-899-2702, or www.opioidmanagement.com.
